Neuro Protective Care (NDC)

Neuro Protective Care (NDC)

Neuro Protective Developmental Care (NDC)

This approach, which is now widely available across Australia and globally, focuses on supporting families through breastfeeding, sleep, and managing cry-fuss behaviours with a focus on nurturing the infant’s neurodevelopment.

NDC represents a significant shift from traditional mainstream parenting advice by providing a scientific framework that empowers parents to care for their newborn in a way that aligns with their own values, beliefs, and goals. It emphasises flexibility, experimentation, and workability, allowing parents to make informed decisions that work best for their individual circumstances.

By prioritising responsive caregiving, NDC aims to de-medicalise concerns around sleep and cry-fuss issues, offering families a compassionate, practical, and supportive approach to raising their newborn. With a focus on neuroprotection and developmental well-being, NDC is a valuable resource for parents seeking to nurture their child’s development while fostering confidence and well-being for themselves.

Sharon has been providing care for women and babies in the North Brisbane since 2009. In 2015 she trained in Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC, also known as the Possums programs). The NDC approach is an evidence-based, scientific model which supports responsive, attachment-focussed care and deals with concerns surrounding feeding, sleep and mood.

Sharon’s aim is to establish a safe place for families seeking guidance, support and empowerment through the challenging early stages of parenthood that incorporates individual needs, resources, values and goals.
